Curtain of Objects (Installation view at Rianne Groen’s booth 54 at Art Rotterdam 2019)
The installation Curtain of Objects, developed by Tim Hollander for Art Rotterdam 2019, focusses on the aesthetic and practical aspects of the museum storage. The storagelike installation forms the basis for the artworks of the three other participating artists. Although Curtain of Objects functions as a kind of infrastructure, it is far from passive. The three storage racks that form the hearth of the work bring together the work of various artists into one object, whilst adding elements derived from actual storage facilities: a somewhat unusual sorting system, white gloves for art handling, color management templates and an abstract script for a film about a fictional museum storage. Some of these elements seem to suggest the storage has been abandoned and out of order for some time: systems are haggard, objects have been broken and an odd kind of mould seems to invade the space. The result is an installation that supports the work by the other artists, while recontextualizing them at the same time.

The installation was developed with support of the Mondriaan Fonds.
